ICOM
ICOM, the International Council of Museums, is an international organization of museums and museum professionals which is committed to the conservation, continuation and communication to society of the world’s natural and cultural heritage – present and future, tangible and intangible. Having celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006, it is the world’s largest and most respected organization for museum professionals, boasting over 22,000 individual and institutional members worldwide. Triennial meetings allow all members to meet for discussion and scientific exchanges about their field and the future of museums.
The ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums is now universally embraced as the standard for museum work.
The ICOM membership card provides free admission to member museums all over the world.
ICOM’s flagship consists of the 30 International Committees, each devoted to a specific type of museum or discipline. As an ICOM member, you have the right to become a voting member of one of these committees. ICOM supports the activities of the Costume Committee.
